Women Shaping Music

This International Women’s Day we celebrate the women reshaping music. From boundary-breaking artists to grassroots champions, their passion and determination are leaving a lasting mark on the industry.

For years, Marshall has worked alongside women across the music community, supporting the spaces and platforms where new voices grow. Our commitment goes beyond celebration. It’s about showing up and helping build a more inclusive future for music.

Powering grassroots

The heartbeat of music often starts far from festival headlines. It lives in small venues, community spaces and studios where new talent first finds its voice. Women are shaping these spaces every day, opening doors and creating pathways for the next generation of artists.

One of those spaces is FOCUS Wales(opens in a new window). Under the leadership of Sarah Jones, the festival has grown into a vital launchpad for emerging artists. Marshall has worked with FOCUS Wales for years, from panel discussions to helping curate line-ups that champion new and diverse voices.

Behind the scenes in the UK, Bethan McConnell(opens in a new window) plays a key role at Music Venues Trust(opens in a new window), helping protect the grassroots venues and community spaces where live music begins.

"It’s more important than ever to support grassroots across the whole music ecosystem. Without grassroots, there is nothing above it"

In Paris, Anouche Aprikian brings independent ideas to life at Combo Factory(opens in a new window), supporting artists as they turn music, visuals and live events into fully realised projects.

Supporting these spaces matters. 1% of Marshall Amplify member purchases on marshall.com goes towards supporting music communities, with a focus this year on independent music venues. These are the spaces that keep local scenes alive and give new artists the chance to be heard.

Marshall Records: Bold Voices

At our own label, Marshall Records(opens in a new window), women are shaping the sound of today. Nova Twins(opens in a new window) bring electrifying energy to punk and alt-rock, while Dream Nails(opens in a new window) channel political awareness and inclusivity into music that connects deeply with audiences.

Both acts show that women in music can be bold, fearless and entirely themselves.

LOUD WOMEN: making their mark

Lady Lazarus(opens in a new window), a Sydney-born band now based in Berlin, bring riot grrrl energy to every performance. Bold and fearless, they do more than play music. They inspire audiences to pick up instruments, shout their own lyrics and find their own voice.

Beyond the stage, Lady Lazarus help lead LOUD WOMEN(opens in a new window), bringing the festival to Germany and creating stages for women, queer, trans and non-binary artists. In a heavy music scene still dominated by men, these festivals show that there is space for everyone to be seen and celebrated.

Elsewhere in Berlin, Mia Gjakonovski(opens in a new window), channels strength in a different way. Her performances draw audiences close, proving that being loud is not always about decibels. It can be about presence and conviction.

Different sounds, same refusal to shrink. Across venues and festival stages, women are turning up the volume, shaping live music and pushing it forward. This is only the beginning.

Women in vinyl

Not all the work happens on stage. Jenn D’Euginio(opens in a new window), founder of Women in Vinyl(opens in a new window), helps women and artists who have traditionally been overlooked succeed in the recording and vinyl industry. Through mentorship, workshops and scholarships, she gives musicians the skills and support to grow and take control of their careers.

Marshall has partnered with Women in Vinyl since 2023, supporting their mission to create long-term opportunity behind the scenes. Women in Vinyl shows that shaping music is not just about who is performing. Behind the scenes, women are making their mark every day, helping build the music world of tomorrow.
